5:36PM - Appropriate icon is appropriate.

Okay, it's time for me to face facts: my laptop, which has served me terribly for the last three years, has now reached the level of falling-apart* that means it needs to be replaced.

The problems with this are twofold:
- I have no money
- I know nothing about computers

Does anyone know what sort of laptop I can get that will a) WORK, and b) not be too expensive? (My budget is probs around £400.) All I know is that I'm never getting a Packard Bell again, because this thing is the biggest pile of shit ever. Obviously with that budget I'm not going to get the shiniest computer ever, but I'd just like something that, you know, won't regularly die on me.

*I'm so close to sticking it back together with gaffer tape, you guys. When I say "falling apart", I do mean LITERALLY.**
**And, yes, I know I could just get the hinge fixed, but it fails in myriad other ways too.

12:24PM - State of the Me Update

So, yeah, I have had Miss Alix here visiting for the past week and I have been playing Tourguide Magoo at her, so I have not read any of LJ. So if any of you have done anything exciting over the past week and want to tell me about it - now is the time.

So, in a nutshell this has been my week:
*CURRUMBIN SANCTUARY!
*BIRTHDAY DINNER!
*BIRTHDAY PRESENTS!
*Q1!
*GREENMOUNT!
*RAINBOW BAY!
*FOOD!
*MORE FOOD!
*ICE CREAM!
*SEEING LOADS OF CHUMS FOR FOOD AND DRINKING AND KARAOKE!
*FUN!
*POINTING AT THINGS!

I will probably put up some photos in Facebook at some stage soon.

8:04PM - CALL OFF THE SEARCH:

I've found the best thing on YouTube.

Cheerio, Michael. xxx

6:47PM - Well, fuck.

That wasn't supposed to happen.

:(

But I guess I'm supporting Roddick in the final, even if he did just beat Murray, because I always support whoever isn't Federer.

Still: :(

2:28PM - Best Song of 2000: Finalists

Behold! The finalists for 2000 are under the cut:

Our top 40 of 2000 )

Nominations for 2001 will begin next week. Have a good weekend everyone!

11:14AM - The Month In Pop: June

Poll #1424568 The Month In Pop: June
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All

What was the best new thing you heard in June?

As ever, the definition of 'new' is down to you - if you heard it first in June and it's awesome then that's fine. Links/embeds in the comments encouraged!

Reminder! You have until 2pm BST to vote in Heat #8 of 2000

3:13PM - Ugh.

Yeah, I got a 2.1.

:(

(I know there's nothing wrong with a 2.1, I'm just angry at myself because I know I could've done better.)

9:58PM - Happy Love Ball Day, everyone!

Technically the Love Ball will be over by now, which means that Naomi and Emily are probably back at Naomi's house having sex RIGHT NOW. :D :D :D This makes me stupidly happy. YES, I'M LAME, I DON'T CARE OKAY.

*happysigh* I just rewatched 'Katie & Emily' for the millionth time (seriously, I've lost count) and God, I still love them like fierce. It's making me crave fic, but somehow all the epic long fic in this fandom manages not to be Naomi/Emily? How did that even happen??

In other news, I GET MY FREAKING RESULTS TOMORROW. D: I thought it was Friday, but I JUST found out that no, it's tomorrow, so I've been a bit blindsided by panic. I'm fairly certain I've got a 2.1 but I'm still going to be disappointed by it, because I really want a First. SIGH.

7:48PM - TWIHARD:

I keep meaning to most about my terribly busy and fascinating life. But, erm, I don't. Mostly because it currently consists of going 'shit, have taken a teaching post which starts in August, I don't think I'm up for this', 'I have written the bulk of a children's book which I've now decided is a bit shit and not really reflective of me as a writer or a person, but maybe that's because I want to write something that is beautiful and sad and moving, but then everything I do write is just stupid or sassy or thinly-veiled-autobiography' and... going to the shop. To work, not to buy things. Don't even get me started on my money w0e, the bank have been dogging my ass all over town wanting to know what the hell is going on with my whacky overdraft... shoot.

Anyway. A nice diversion! Sarah Rees Brennan talking about the difference between US/UK covers, mostly of YA books. The original UK cover for Twilight was an interesting - and ugly - surprise.

Until next time.

1:54PM - Best Song of 2000: Heat #8

Still D.R.E., Spinning Around and The Real Slim Shady led the pack in Heat #7, while Stronger and Stan fought off a last minute surge by The Bad Touch to join them in the 2000 final.

Last heat today! And there are some proper bangers below the cut...

Same rules as the last heat - TEN ticks in total. )

You ain't got no alibi! )

You have until Friday lunchtime to vote, at which point I'll post a full list of the qualifiers for the 2000 final. HOWEVER we're not going to be voting on that straight away (to try and avoid tick-fatigue on the same songs). Instead, next week we're going to start nominations for 2001. There will be a slight change in nomination procedure (more details to follow) but there'll still be plenty of time to get your thinking caps on.

9:45AM - NaBloPoMo #THELASTONE!!!!!!!!!!

So, the lastest one of this little exercise, and I must say, it was kinda fun. I might do it again at some stage.

And, for old times sake, this choice is going under the cut )

12:50PM - NaBloPoMo #29 - Heroes and Heroines

Second last entry for this. And I'd like to thank all of you who read these, and all of you who commented.

Janeane Garofalo
What can I say about Janeane, really? Funny, attractive, intelligent, outspoken, inked, takes no shit from fools.
I am in complete awe of this woman.

7:00PM - Ugh, I'm terrible at coming up with titles for these things.

- Okay, I know everyone in fandom has seen the Bleighton gaysplosion that happened last night, but I still have to link because, WOW. I'm still kind of amazed those photos even exist. Also, they're kind of making me miss Gossip Girl a bit. I still haven't caught up; apparently not even the prospect of MOAR GEORGINA has managed to lure me back. Sadface.

- I'm kind of annoyed that the deadline for [info]thelittlebang has been pushed back two weeks. Ugh, I'm so ready to post that motherfucker already. It's so rare for me to actively want to post any fic I write, so to not be able to is... a little frustrating.

- I've started properly working on my [info]femslash09 fic and I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. I'm sure I'll start hating it in due course, but right now it's going really well. \o/

- Is anyone watching Wimbledon? It's the only tennis tournament I watch but I love it SO MUCH, and I'm getting stupidly excited about Andy Murray's chances. \o/ Also, lolling forever over the commentator's OBSESSION with the Centre Court roof. When will we finally see the roof in action?? I don't know about you, but I'm on TENTERHOOKS.
